Instructions

  • Make a list of projects that have never gotten finished that you wished you could have finished; that never fully materialized; that didn’t have the results they deserved; that were abandoned; that feel unsatisfyingly unfinished; and that you know you will never finish.
  • Take this list and tear it into tiny, tiny, tiny pieces–almost like confetti.
  • Then choose one of the following: sprinkle the pieces over a fire to burn them; sprinkle them over moving water to sweep them out to the ocean; or sprinkle them over the ground and bury them.
  • While sprinkling the pieces, say out loud (even if it’s just a whisper): “I am sorry you didn’t get the ending you deserved, but nevertheless, you are now finished. I release you. Be at peace.”

Accept & Embrace better-than-it-was and reject the siren call of perfection

Pssst.....
.
.
............... What is the quest for perfection supposed to be protecting you from?
.
Feeling bad?
Letting someone down?
Rejection?
Letting yourself down?
Being seen as unworthy?
.
.
And so then what if you are actually inviting in all of those not-so-great feelings when you attempt to be perfect? What if the paradox is that the very mechanism you are using to avoid those feelings is, in fact, bringing them up to the surface artificially? Vaguely like the scenario where you turn to booze to help ease social anxiety and end up making a fool of yourself because you went a little too far...
.
...maybe you don't need the booze. Maybe you don't need the perfectionism...
