ORIGIN STORY
The name "Something Something" comes from Saturdays at the late Tom Buechner's home.
A small handful of artists were invited to work quietly alongside Tom in his studio from 1-5pm while the Metropolitan Opera was broadcast live on the radio. Shortly before 5pm, Tom would announce: "Let's have a little something something, shall we?" Everyone would adjourn to the kitchen where they could make a martini or grab a can of Coca Cola and head upstairs to his study.
A can of Virginia peanuts would be passed around, and the next two hours would be spent in deep & thoughtful conversation, with Tom's preference for philosophical discussions and heart-to-hearts about the community. It was my fondest memory of my time with Tom, and for years I have longed to host a little Something Something of my own.

- AI: the good, the bad, and the ugly. How do we make space for this new development that clearly is here to stay?
- Neurodivergence: how do we accommodate the wide variety of ways people show up in the world and interpret the world? When is someone just an asshole vs unable to fit social norms? How do we navigate conflicting accommodation needs?
- How do we support community most effectively? How do we interact with people who believe very different things from us? Is the political gap too wide to bridge anymore? How do we navigate the Paradox of Tolerance?
- How do we better understand and support young people in this day and age? What can we do to effectively and realistically support future generations?
THE INTENTION
These gatherings are meant to connect various voices of the community who may not have interacted with such purpose up to this point. The conversations are to be respected as sacred moments of vulnerability and candidness, where folks have space to express thoughts, questions, worries, hopes, and ideals freely. Equally important, these are opportunities to wholeheartedly listen to each other's humanness and different realities.
We are basing this salon after this great article, so please read before attending.
